  1. What happens in a counseling session? Do you just listen or do you do more?
Listening is definitely essential. Deep listening is a powerful active process that can clarify and create mutual understanding. There is also interaction, exploration questions, story telling, and sometimes even humor. As understanding deepens other skills can be assessed and other planned psychotherapeutic exercises can be explored to empower a client toward meeting their chosen goals.

I work with individuals, couples, and families. I work with a number of life challenges including: anxiety, depression, loss and grief, unexpected life and relationship changes, low self-esteem, body image, pre-marital counseling, marriage counseling, relationship challenges, life-threatening diagnoses, chronic illness, divorce, and longings to live with more aliveness and wholeness.

  4. How long is each counseling session and how often will we meet?
Each counseling session is one hour. Depending on an individual's needs and the challenges being faced, counseling may be as often as every week or as infrequently as once a month. The sessions need to be frequent enough to create momentum and with enough space in between to allow for integration and exploration.

  10. What is Transpersonal Psychology?
Transpersonal Psychology seeks to inspire us to look in awe at the vastness of our inner infinite space. It challenges us to stretch our paradigms as we strive to create greater meaning, wholeness and healthier connections. Transpersonal Psychology takes the approach that all the dimensions of the human person can best be served by a multi-disciplinary background and with a variety of therapeutic tools that directly combine psychology and spirituality.

It is based on the idea that human health is more than just the absence of disease. It seeks to include all aspects of personhood with a distinctive emphasis on the interrelatedness of the psychological and the spiritual. Transpersonal psychotherapy seeks to nurture those skills and practices that can enhance a person's total experience of belonging, aliveness, wakefulness, and meaningfulness. It seeks to empower each individual with skills to integrate the inevitable pain encountered in living and dying.

Drawing from the resources of the world spiritual traditions and practices, Transpersonal psychotherapy seeks to access perennial spiritual resources and appropriate psychological tools to create a collaborative partnership that best serves the unique needs of each individual. It avoids assuming that one therapeutic model is a fit-all cure for everyone. The complexities and mysteries of each human being inspires voyages of discovery and creativity in all endeavors of cure, healing, and growth.

  12. What is Spritiual Direction?
To engage in Spiritual Direction is to engage in a Spiritual Practice. It is designed for those wishing to deepen their own spiritual experiences and for those who need a place of accountability and encouragement. The role of a Spiritual Director is likened to that of a spiritual mid-wife who comes alongside to support the emergence of more soulfulness and aliveness.

This ancient interfaith practice has received renewed interest in the midst of many contemporary challenges. Spiritual Direction creates a non-judgmental safe structure where individuals can explore and experiment with their spiritual aliveness.
